The Democratic People’s Republic of Korea has greeted a new era of socialist civilization, an era of great transformation.
Regarding it as the most important of state affairs to champion the rights and interests of the people and promote their wellbeing, the Workers’ Party of Korea spares nothing for this undertaking. Thanks to the Party’s political ideal of believing in the people as in Heaven and its spirit of making selfless, devoted efforts for the good of the people, the Kangdong Combined Greenhouse Farm was built into a world-class vegetable production base in a matter of one year.
It is a model entity representing the country’s signal development, with its production lines put on an intelligent and intensive footing and its modern, cultured and practical nature guaranteed.
Having unfolded a far-reaching plan of erecting modern greenhouse farms in different parts of the country, the respected Comrade Kim Jong Un devoted painstaking efforts to this end. As a part of this effort, he unveiled the blueprint of building a large-scale greenhouse farm in the Kangdong area and wisely led the whole course of this project.
Under his seasoned leadership, the greenhouse farm, which is far advanced and larger than the Ryonpho Greenhouse Farm in terms of scale and production capacity, as well as public buildings, terraced houses which blend well with natural surroundings were built to present a fascinating scenery as befits a “greenhouse town” and “farming town” in a suburb of the capital city.
Deputy department director Ri Yong Sam and designers Kim Chol San and An Kuk Chol from the Pyongyang Urban Designing Institute presented a flawless general layout of the farm and an artist’s impression of its public buildings and houses, true to the intention of the far-reaching plan of Kim Jong Un.
From the geographical point of view, the Kangdong Mountain Range stretches like a folding screen to the north; in the east there is Mt Taebak on which Tangun Mausoleum stands; in the west there is the Ponghwa Revolutionary Site associated with the footprints of Kim Hyong Jik, an indomitable communist revolutionary fighter; in the south the Sujong Stream rich in water source meanders. As the farm is widely exposed to the sun, the duration of sunshine is relatively long, creating a favourable condition for greenhouse farming.
According to the general layout of the farm, it is distinctively classified into the sections of production, ideological education, public buildings and dwelling houses, with roads paved in several directions for convenient functional relationship with one another.
The buildings for ideological education, office building, hall of culture, hostel, sanatorium, school and building for welfare services reflect their respective missions and characters and make a good match with the surrounding environment.
Flat-roofed and slanted-roofed houses as well as low-rise and multi-storied houses are arranged to sustain the geographical features, thus highlighting its peculiarity.
The farm, the third of its kind in the history of greenhouse farm construction in the country, is a socialist wealth born of the fervent wish and wise leadership of Kim Jong Un.
