Korean Architecture | Great Leadership

Immortal leadership/

Revolutionary Anecdotes/

To Provide Excellent Houses to Educationists

The respected Comrade Kim Jong Un always pays close attention to providing his people with wonderful material and cultural living conditions.
The following happened on October 16, Juche 103 (2014) when he visited the completed apartment buildings for the lecturers at Kim Chaek University of Technology.
After receiving the greetings of a senior official of the university, he, looking at the high-rise buildings, said that the buildings were attractive and they looked like sailing boats on the Taedong River.
Then he continued: These apartment houses look like a hotel; as it attaches importance to Kim Chaek University of Technology, the Party had such wonderful houses built for it; I feel very pleased to think that such wonderful flats will be provided to the teachers of the university.
Hearing him, the officials recollected the painstaking efforts he had made for the building of the houses.
Busy as he was, he proposed the housing project, carefully examined the scores of formation plans of the houses and gave detailed instructions on the site and size of the buildings, organization of construction forces and supply of equipment and materials.
And he visited the construction site twice and led the builders to build the houses as standard structures representative of the era of the Workers’ Party of Korea.
He said to the officials accompanying him: I feel really pleased to think that such apartment houses embodying the formative and artistic beauty of architecture are to be provided to teachers and researchers of Kim Chaek University of Technology; and I feel relieved of all fatigue as I picture in my mind the teachers and researchers of the university who will move to the new flats in happiness.
As the officials were looking back upon those days, Comrade Kim Jong Un continued: These excellent apartment houses for educationists are a clear demonstration of our Party’s idea of attaching importance to science and talented personnel and they are unique architectural structures with perfect harmony of the Juche character, national identity, originality, convenience and formative and artistic beauty.
Then he went to flat No. 1 on the fifth floor of the first block.
After checking in the hallway whether the mirror was hanging on a right place on the wall and whether the shoe chest was made well, he proceeded to the kitchen.
The kitchen was furnished with a complete set of kitchen facilities including cupboard, sink, cooking table and exhauster, and even a filled gas cylinder was in the storeroom of the kitchen. In short, all was ready to cook a meal right away.
After looking round the kitchen with satisfaction, Kim Jong Un opened the cupboard and sat on the chair in the kitchen, saying: The hostess will be very pleased to see such a well-furnished kitchen.
An official in charge of building work told him that the flats of the apartments were designed to be heated and cooled with geothermal energy. On hearing him, Kim Jong Un said with a broad smile: It is good if the geothermal heating and cooling system works well; and this alone shows that these apartments are better than previously-built ones.
As if picturing in his mind the teachers and researchers who would be happy to be provided with new flats, he wore a smile on his face and told the officials to ask teachers and researchers about what was good and what was not about the new flats after they moved into them.
His concern was as meticulous as a mother.
Looking at a TV set and arm chairs in the living room he advised to replace the TV set with a large-screen one, and asked where the socket for the TV set was installed.
During his last visit to the flat, he instructed that the sockets should be installed in suitable places lest the users should feel inconvenience and the number of sockets and their locations should be fixed by considering the arrangement of household electronic goods and furniture.
The location of socket is so trivial a matter that it gives little inconvenience when using a house.
But it was not a trifling matter to Kim Jong Un, who regards the people as in heaven.
He looked round the room again and said: This is the year of scientists both in name and reality; if they live in more civilized conditions, I have nothing left to wish for.
That day, he climbed up the 46th floor, the top floor of the apartment.
He went out to a balcony of flat No 1 of the floor, where he enjoyed the beautiful scenery for a while. Then he, pointing downward, said: It would be good to lay out a park on the riverside over there and install a large-screen LED TV so that residents would come out with their families and watch it in the evening.
The officials were deeply moved by his concern to provide them with wonderful cultural and emotional living conditions.
After a while, Kim Jong Un asked a senior official of the university how long it would take to go to the university from the apartment on foot.
The official answered ten minutes or so. Kim Jong Un said that it was an ideal distance to commute to and from their university on foot. And he asked about the impression of those who would receive new houses.
Deeply moved by his parental care for them who had donated nothing to the building of the apartment houses, the official answered in a choked voice that they felt like boasting about their happiness before the world.
After hearing his answer, Kim Jong Un said: In future, when foreigners come to the university for academic exchanges you could proudly show them these apartment houses; by building many excellent architectures like these, we, also in the construction sector, should humble those who boast of leading the world’s “civilization”; I have nothing more to desire, if our scientists live in more civilized conditions.
The senior official of the university made a firm resolve to make redoubled efforts in scientific research, and thus devote all his wisdom and energy to building the country into a people’s paradise, true to the trust and expectation of the Party.
There are many countries in the world and each country has countless buildings representing their honour, power and position.
However, no country or history knows a proud structure, every architectural element of which thoroughly embodies the people-first principle, the idea of attaching importance to science and technology and talented personnel.
The apartment houses for the teachers at Kim Chaek University of Technology which decorated the annals of the people-first architecture, are a crystallization of Kim Jong Un’s devoted service for the people and iron will to turn his into a powerful socialist country, which is filled with its people’s happy laughter, by dint of science and technology.
As a witness to the happy life the scientists in Juche Korea enjoy in the warm embrace of the great leader, the apartment buildings are now fully demonstrating the veracity and vitality of the Workers’ Party of Korea’s idea of attaching importance to science and talented personnel.
